In a contract that is rumored to cost about $10M, Netflix has landed global rights to the movie ‘Concrete Cowboy,’ a father-son drama featuring Idris Elba that had its first screening in Toronto last September. Netflix will launch this movie feature sometime in 2021.
The storyline, starring Caleb McLaughlin, is a problematic teenager sent to live with his alienated father by his mother. His father happens to be part of a lively black cowboy community in north Philly. A classic Father-son drama.
Ricky Staub brilliantly directed the movie. In conjunction with Dan Walser, they modified the screenplay from the book Ghetto Cowboy by G. Neri.
Asides from Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin, the movie also stars Jharrel Jerome, Lorriane Toussaint, Clifford “Method Man” Smith, and Byron Bowers.
Daniels, Walser, Jeff G. Waxman, Tooley, Jennifer Madeloff, and Elba were the producers for the Lee Daniels Entertainment, Waxylu Films, Green Door Pictures, and Neighborhood Film Co-production.
The executive producers were Gary Raskin, Neri, Alistair Burmingham, Greg Renker, Staci Hagenbaugh, Lorrain Burgess, Sam Mercer, Gregoire Gensollen, Tegan Jones, and Jason Barhydt. Tucker Tooler Entertainment was responsible for the financing of the movie.
